Choosing is not as easy as it may seem. Let's see this sample case. I've been looking for the perfect candidate to replace my 'obsolete' N6600 which has been loyal to me for almost four years. Lots of new models have been launched yet it took quite some times for me to decide which one that will have the honor to continue my N6600 service. N6290 once became a candidate. S60, fast CPU, and new form factor (well for me at least :D) had attracted me. But it never came out in Indo, so I had to look for another candidate. N6300 stepped forward as the next candidate. But I still waited for a better candidate, then SE P1 came. Ermm....Switch to SE, what a temptation. P1 offered incredible features. But I preferred Nokia rather than SE. N6120 Classic came along the way to sway me from SE P1. It's just like N6290 with different form factor. But it offered HSDPA and secondary camera. Finally, a perfect candidate that I'd been looking for. But.........not so long after that E51 was announced. It was beautiful. It's equipped with Wifi capability though with sacrificing the secondary camera for video conference. Ermmm....tough decision. And to add the dilemma, N82 was launched in Dec 2007. I want slim, candybar, equipped with HSDPA, Wifi, and decent camera cellphone (in considerable price range of course). E51 fulfilled almost all of them. N82 got stuck on the price...lolzzz....6120 Classic was cheaper, about 1M...Ermmmm after a thorough consideration I decided to choose E51. The crowning moment would be....soon.
Ok, that was about choosing cellphone. It was much easier and straightforward because the specs were stated clearly and they're fixed. All the emotions involved may only based on previous experience with particular brand or form factor, thus building brand or form factor preferences. I don't need to tell which brand I prefer, right?
Not so easy when it comes to choosing people. Choosing friends, girlfriend/boyfriend is much more complicated. Let say You'd like the candidate to have quality A,B,C,D, and E. Girl #1 has A,B, n C. Girl #2 has B,D, n E. Girl #3 has A,C, n E. Girl #4 has A,B,C n D. If they were cellphones, girl #4 would be the best candidate. Or if each of the quality has equal priority (Thanks to PSA Reporting modules that influenced me to use the term equal priority), then girl #4 would score 80,thus be the best.
But what if the priority is different among quality A,B,C,D, and E. Ermmm...starting to get confusing, huh? This is only when dealing with the specific qualities. What if we add other parameters here, like...emotions, preferences, vibe/sparks/chemistry. What if girl #4 with all the qualities she possessed, didn't create this vibe/sparks/chemistry, while girl #3 clicked right away? Complicated, isn't it? Where does this chemistry come? Probably it's from our subconscious, like why there's a thing or a person that fascinate us...
Speaking about chemistry, as one of my fave subject back in high school, there were still one or two things I remember, esp about chemical reaction. There are some elements that would create chemical reaction right away when they're put together (Similar with a guy and a girl who clicks right away after they meet). There are some that need more time before a chemical reaction happens (Reminds me of some couple that takes a while to build that spark).
Example:
Two elements of Hidrogen and one element of Oxygen would create Water.
2 H2 + O2 → 2 H2O
Beside the basic nature of the elements, there are other factors that affect the chemical reaction. They are:
- Temperature
- Concentration
- Catalyst
- Surface Area
I guess catalyst can be imagined as a friend who helps in speeding up the process between prospective couple to become a real couple...or...maybe a matchmaker... :D:D:D. The surface area involves how many collisions happen, which eventually accelerate the chemical reaction. Maybe this can be imagined as the amount of time they (a guy and a girl) spend together before the spark is created. I'm not gonna go through the other factors...:D
From the chemical reaction sample above, both H2 (gas) and O2 (gas) have become a new substance, H2O (liquid). Their form and characteristics changed. Chemical reaction happens when the elements are capable to do so. If not, nothing will happen.
Okay, enough with the chemistry lesson. I'm not even 100% sure that I still remember it correctly...lolzz...Please correct me if there's anything wrong. Back to the case sample above. Maybe with girl #4, it'd take a while before the chemistry kick in. Maybe there won't be any chemistry at all. Maybe girl #4 is very compatible (fulfilling quality A,B,C n D) but lacks in chemistry, while girl #3 is quite compatible, but the chemistry is excellent. Which one will you choose? Which one is more important to you? Chemistry or compatibility? I can only say, choose wisely.
As for me, both are important, just have different priorities. Esp looking at this result :D :D
I can't even define the fixed weighing factor. It never easy when it involves feelings. After all we, humans, are creature with feelings and emotions.

Your Ideal Relationship is Serious Dating |
You're not ready to go walking down the aisle. But you may be ready in a couple of years. You prefer to date one on one, with a commitment. And while chemistry is important, so is compatibility. |
